Week 10 - January 16 - 22, 2024
MSQ time!
After much waiting, patch 6.55 is finally here! I’ve been waiting for this one for a while! I love MSQ time, since Xarale and I always do them together, as we have since ARR. We hop on voice chat, set the cutscenes to auto advance, and sit back and watch the show until it’s time to run around or do a duty.
This patch brings us more Main story, along with more adventures of our favorite Gentleman Inspector, Hildibrand.
Fair warning, this is going to contain lots of spoilers! Reader discretion is advised.
The Coming Dawn
This is the last story patch of Endwalker, which brings us our first taste of the next adventure to come.
We start, of course, bidding farewell to our dragon bro Varshahn, never to be seen again, just like Aymeric and Lyse. Ah well.
Upon arriving at Sharlayan, we get to meet the person who’s going to take us on our next journey. Introducing Wuk Lamat!

Fun fact about her, her voice actress is a Puerto Rican transwoman!
I’m so glad that female hrothgar look good, a lot of people have been worried for a while that they would just look either like Roegadyn but Cat, or that they would be more anime waifu like Miqo’te are. Instead, we get some nice, buff, tall cat ladies that look like they could rip you in half, and I love them.
We don’t get any dungeons this time around, which isn’t really that surprising since we already got the Lunar Subteranne in the last patch. Instead, we get a little solo instance of Isle of Hamm, with Erenville, G’raha, and Wuk Lamat. Since you and our new cat friend have just met, she wants to know she can trust you before she hires you, so she insists you go on a hunt together. My inner RPer was ginning like a fool. After all, this is the exact kind of thing Zel would suggest! She is, after all, a hunter from a hunter family.
I adore Wuk Lamat. She’s so fun and loud, and is trying her best even when very visibly frightened. She shoulders through it all, and even tries out Zero’s Super Spicy Voidsent Vindaloo. I think she and Zel are going to be good friends.
All in all, I really enjoyed this short little story update. This post expac patch cycle has been very different from the previous ones, where they continued a bit of the expansion’s story while transitioning to the next expansion. This time, we got a separate but related side story surrounding Vrtra and the 13th, and just one little extra quest to tease the upcoming Dawntrail.

And of course, who could forget the new Hildibrand quests?
I love Hildibrand, it’s exactly the kind of off-the-wall ridiculous humor I adore. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoy it every time. Plus, this is another quest that Xarale and I like to do together. We always have a blast laughing at the insanity.
I found myself laughing constantly, especially when the villain offered to clone me.
Oh Hildi, my boy, she aint joking.
I wasn’t expecting the trial! I knew they made a new trial for Fanfest, continuing the FF4 theme by adding Lady Asura as a boss, but I wasn’t sure where they were going to put her!
This is far from the first trial unlocked through the Hildibrand quests (and I swear if I see one more person saying the Hildibrand quests are “gating content” I will scream. It IS the content). It’s where all of the Gilgamesh stuff is after all. I do miss Greg though, wish they’d bring him back.
I was excited to get to the last stage of the relic, only to be disappointed that it yet another tome exchange.
Maybe next expansion I’ll get a satisfying relic.

Everyone gettin caught up on MSQ!
My buddy Naoh has been behind on their MSQ for a while, and I’ve been pushing them to get it done because I knew they were going to LOVE what was coming up. Eventually they got to Zeromus, and I of course offered to help.
So glad I did. Thal's balls, this party was a mess! We had about 4 wipes and me and the tanks seemed to be the only ones that were able to stay alive!
Eventually we got a good rhythm and everyone was able to figure out the trickier mechanics. Everyone had touble getting a hang of the Black Hole and Deadly Lasers part, but we got through it eventually.
We did eventually wipe again once we got to the second phase because I was fresh out of mana from trying to resurrect 4 people in a row. Even a white mage can get tired! One person eventually just left, but we got a new DPS pretty fast.
But we got it. It’s always satisfying when we power through a tough duty.
