Just trying to get back home to family...

Smushi Come Home

An unexpected journey

Smushi come home logo. Smushi is in larger, green letters with small leaves floating around it, Come Home is written below in smaller red letters. The letters are drawn in a rounded, cartoony style.

Developer: SomeHumbleOnion
Publisher: Mooneye Studios
Genre: Collectathon, 3D platformer

I didn’t even realize how much I like 3D platforming collectathons until I played this! They’re not a genre I have much experience with.

Screenshot from Smushi Come Home. Two tiny, vaguely humanoid mushrooms with white bodies and red caps dotted with white are facing each other. On the left is Smushi's sibling saying Good Morning Smushi. Smushi is on the right. in the background a third mushroom is floating on their back in a small pool of water.

Smushi Come Home is an adorable, peaceful little platformer where you control Smushi, a little mushroom dude who got separated from their siblings after being kidnapped by a bird! Now they’re off on a journey to find their way back.

Smushi in the claws of a large bird being carried away. He is screaming AND WOULD YOU PUT ME DOWN ALREADY!! The backdrop is a snowy winter forest.

This game is just so cute. It’s so chill. There’s no fights, no enemies, just lots of platforming, some quests, objects to find, and a cute little mushroom just running around making friends.

Smushi talking to a blue humanoid creature about his size. Dialogue on the screen reads: You got Tools of the Explorer! These should help me get around easier...I hope.
Smushi talking to a beige humanoid creature with a yellow flower on their head. They are saying: These shrines bring us good luck!

The platforming itself isn’t massively difficult or precise. There’s a couple of more challenging bits (mostly optional) but overall it is very easy.

Smushi overlooking the forest while standing on top of a red asian paper lantern.

But that’s what I loved about it! I loved just climbing up these little structures and gliding around with my tiny leaf paraglider. I liked helping the cute little forest dudes with whatever little tasks they asked me. From gathering blueberries to running an obstacle course, this game was absolutely oozing with charm and character.

There’s very little in the way of story, but they don’t all need to be big grand adventures. Sometimes just a little guy trying to get home is enough. Straight to the point.

Smushi now has a cap resembling an inky cap mushroom. It is a gray to black gradient from the top, with the brim having several black droplets around it. They are talking to a light brown humanoid creature with four arms and a pink flower on their head. The creature is shouting: PRAAAAISE THE SUUUUN!!

I love this little mushroom so much. They’re so cute and adorable and sweet. They’re always so nice to everyone around them, even when some of these strangers are less than cordial to them, and they always see the best in those they come across. They’re always willing to help, even when the requests are a little inane or arbitrary, but they still lend a hand or tool.

Smushi conversing with a plump teal humanoid figure with a pink upside down flower on their head that is seated. Smushi holds a thimble and is saying: Delicious Seasoning.

The dialogue is fun and got several chuckles out of me, and even had a few surprisingly inspirational bits here and there.

Smushi with a strawberry on their head. They are talking to a small pebble with eyes and limbs, whose head is covered in moss and super tiny mushrooms. Smushi is saying: But maybe being brave is what's important.

It is, however, extremely short. I got 100% in just over 6 hours. This included getting all of the mushroom caps to change how you look, as well as all of the mushroom encyclopedia entries, which are very informative!

Mycology Journal. There are several mushrooms shown in a grid, with some blank squares as well. One mushroom is a black sillhouette with the word New on top of it.
Journal entry for Entoloma hochstetteri. About this mushroom: Entoloma hochstetteri, also known as the Blue Pinkgill, is a small and delicate species. Yet it's quite distictive with the all-around blue coloration. Truly a sight to behold if you come across one!

The blu coloration could potentially be used as a natural blue dye, but further research is still needed...

Smushi notes: These blue mushrooms really stand out! Almost in a showing-off kinda way...wait a sec. Are they blue to make other mushrooms jealous? Oh no... it's working!!!

It was so cute and relaxing I played it again just for more screenshots.

Smushi talking to a bipedal snail with hands holding a book. The snail is saying: Once again the mushroom species AMAZES ME!
A capybara submerged in water, next to small island with a rock, with Smushi and a purple capped mushroom creature standing on it. The purple mushroom is shouting: YOU KNOW YOU LOVE IT
